A veneer is a thin, tooth-coloured shell, made from ceramic, porcelain or a composite material. They are fixed to the front surface of a tooth to boost your confidence and improve the appearance of your smile, concealing discolouration, irregular shape or damage. Veneers offer a minimally invasive way to transform your smile, as only a very thin layer of enamel, if any, is removed prior to fitting.
Veneers can be used effectively to correct malpositioned teeth, close gaps between teeth, restore broken teeth or mask stains.
After examining your teeth, we will remove a thin layer of enamel from your tooth to accommodate the veneer. Not all patients will require this removal as it varies from case to case, depending on the condition of your teeth.
Once your tooth has been prepared, we will take impressions/scans so your bespoke veneer can be created. We will also record the colour of your natural teeth, so your veneer will fit seamlessly into your smile.
When your veneer is ready, we ensure it colour-matches your existing teeth, before bonding it to the front of your tooth using a strong dental adhesive. You are then able to show off your newly restored smile!
If you treat your veneer with care, it will last for many years. Veneers are easily maintained with good oral hygiene at home and regular dental check ups. It is also best to avoid opening anything with your teeth, biting your nails or chewing pencils so your veneer doesn’t get damaged.
