Oral Health Sessions at Maypole Primary School

1st July 2024

It’s never too early to learn healthy  Oral Health habits!

Head Nurse Bev and Manager Lou (who is a qualified Oral Health Educator) visited Maypole Primary School on Thursday 13th June.

The reason for their visit was to deliver an engaging Oral Health Session to the Reception classes.  Maypole Primary School is a wonderful Primary School, boasting happy, engaged children who were ready to learn.  To find out more about this school, visit https://www.maypole.kent.sch.uk/

Following the 2 hour visit, Lou said “It was so much fun! We had children jumping up and down or clapping for 2 minutes; they found out that 2 minutes is longer than they thought!”

The children enjoyed the planned activities, including:

Bev and Lou and a few of our Oral Health learning resources

Learning about Oral Health through play

The session covered a little on:

Bev and Lou made the session fun, with Bev even joining in, when the children were singing their Tooth Brushing song.  Bev adds “It was lovely to see the children engaging in the activities, they were all so well behaved”

Oral Health Helper Fuggler

The Star of the Show

Aside from the smiling, happy children, another star of the show was our Fuggler, aka’Peppers’.

Peppers was used to reassure the children, going to the Dentist, is fun!  Visiting the Dentist regularly gets the children into the healthy habit of looking after their teeth.

The children told Bev and Lou how many teeth they think they have got – this ranged from 16 to 9,000… which sounds like an interesting case study for our Dartford based team!

Peppers is now in his box, until the next Dartford School visit.

Oral Health  – It’s all Fun and games

Lou and Bev loved the organised chaos of the ‘brushing team’, brushing the ‘sugar bugs’ children from their ‘toothy friends’…

…Luckily they were successful and the toothy friends were sparkling at the end of the session.

Registered Childminder Lou, aimed the session at the prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, including, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Communication and Language… mission accomplished!
