Bridges are typically made from a combination of porcelain and metal. The teeth either side of the gap, known as abutment teeth, are fitted with crowns, which support the false tooth as a bridge between them. As well as being fixed over natural teeth, bridges can also be supported by dental implants.
After an initial examination, we will ensure the teeth that will be supporting the bridge are strong and healthy. We will then prepare these teeth, removing a layer of enamel to comfortably accommodate the crowns. We also take impressions of your teeth, so your bridge can be custom-made to fit.
Once your bridge is ready, we will check it fits correctly before fixing it into place using dental cement.
If you look after your bridge properly, including keeping the surrounding teeth healthy, it should last for many years. An excellent oral hygiene routine will help ensure the longevity of your bridge.
